Rachel Saldana is the new Mrs. Alaska United States and was crowned on Saturday, April 20, 2013. Rachel is the former Miss Teen Alaska USA 2002, a five year team member with the Miss Alaska USA/Teen USA Pageant, has judged, trained and mentored multiple state title holders for various pageants.
Rachel is married to Anchorage Police Department officer, Nick Saldana. She credits everything she's learned about marriage to her parents and their example of 33 years of marriage. Rachel is passionate about volunteerism, and was recently selected as part of a statewide ad campaign for the Alaska Tobacco Coalition, promoting a smoke free lifestyle. Rachel has donated time to coordinate and host local events such as the Lulu E. Bebe fashion show, an event televised on the OWN Network, and coached models for Chloe Dagon, a project runway winner.
As a native American and lifelong Alaskan, giving back to her community has long been a passion. At a young age, she volunteered for several mission trips in Guatemala and Mexico, in which she assisted in building homes, working in orphanages and constructing a medical/dental clinic. These early life changing experiences sparked her interest to work in the healthcare industry. Her platform, Building Confidence through Healthy Smiles, focuses on the issues facing the spiritual and emotional needs. Through her experience working in rural Alaska she feels she gained a unique perspective on challenges facing rural communities. She plans on using that information to create change across the nation.
